Microsoft and Nikon signed Android Patent Agreement that covers some of the Nikon cameras running the Android platform. The patent licensing agreement offers a broad coverage under Microsoft's patent portfolio for Nikon cameras running on the Android platform. Microsoft will received royalties from Nikon.
This agreement shows possibilities for collaboration among companies in a competitive patent landscape. Microsoft has started its IP licensing program in 2003 and since then the company entered into more than 1100 licensing agreements. Microsoft and Nikon doesn't compete at the same market. Hence, it's easier for them to strike a deal. It will be harder for MSFT and Google to enter in the similar agreement.

Deletevery good observation. However, I believe that Google is Microsoft's competitor and they still have partnered in some patent areas to promote market growth and gain more market power.
I think corporation among companies benefits customers a lot. Microsoft is a good model for other companies.
