One of the biggest patent law-suits of 2012 between Samsung and Apple is discussed in the article in New York Times. Nine jurors in the case after answering more than 700 more than technical questions have made a verdict that obliged Samsung pay more than one billion dollars to Apple for violating its patents. Jurors determined that Samsung violated a series of Apple's patents in mobile technology.
The damage Samsung has to pay to Apple is very high, however it is not that critical for such a tech giant producer of electronics like Samsung. But the main interesting fact is that the patent law suit of such a big scale may force innovation and push other companies redesign their Iphone-like smartphones. This can lead to a technological breakthrough and offer a broader diversity of products in the market.
I definitely hope that some innovation comes out of this patent war. Things have been quite stale from Apple for a while now and they need a wake up call to get them innovating again, because otherwise they'll just be left in the dust.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering what is the next big thing Apple is coming up with since the company is very intent on suing all its competitors now. Maybe they are on the brink of another "ipod" or "ipad" type breakthrough...
